Singer/Songwriter Silena Murrell has been in the music industry for several years, but 2007 will be the year in which she'll release her upcoming debut album via Universal/Motown Records. She was very kind to give me an opportunity to conduct this interview and I wish her all the best!
PS. Watch out for Silena cuz she's definitely one to watch in 2007 J
PART # 1 STRICTLY BUSINESS
Tell us more about your debut album, and when is it getting released?
It was originally scheduled for March'07 but the exact date is now unknown.
Whom have you worked with? And with whom you shared the best chemistry?
I've worked with Tricky Stewart, Eric Dawkins, Scott Storch, Steve Huff, Wirlie Morris, Adonis Shropshire, Genard Parker, Emanuel Officer
too many to mention and I've had good chemistry with most all of them.
What's the lead single called? And when will you shoot the video?
The lead single is "Bring It Home" and the video date has not been scheduled.
What's your favorite song on the album?
I really like the new song I did with Wirlie Morris "Dying To Tell You" but the album isn't finished yet. There's still good songs to come.
There was some controversy regarding your initial choice for debut single, "I Like My Man Hard", as some listeners claimed that it's a carbon copy of Chris Brown's "Run It". What do you have to say about this?
Well I actually recorded that song months before Chris Brown's run it. My label delayed and Chris Brown came out with his first.
Janet Jackson worked with Cathy Dennis on "Island Life", Toni Braxton did her thing with Soulshock & Karlin on "Midnite", and Beyonce had a runaway hit with Stargate on "Irreplaceable". Have you thought about getting adventurous, and work with European producers?
Yes, I'm actually a fan of Soulshock & Karlin and Stargate productions (hee hee).
We all know that you're an amazing songwriter (I still listen to The Braxtons' "NEVER SAY GOODBYE", hee hee), and I was wondering, which new artists you'd like to write songs for? And which singers/songwriters you're fond of?
Thank you for your compliments. You really do your homework! I'm open to write with or for any serious artist. However, I have not targeted anyone in particular. I just write :) I do like Johnta Austin and Mariah Carey.
Which albums you've listened to recently and liked a lot?
Beyonce's "B'Day" and Justin Timberlake's "FutureSex/LoveSounds".
Universal/ Motown is also the home of Mya and Yummy Bingham. Do you get to see them often? And is there any competition?
I don't really see them but there is no competition because I just do me and there is only one Silena Murrell.
PART # 02 LET'S GET PERSONAL
One thing we'd be surprised to know about you.
I'm celibate.
Two things you don't like hearing about yourself.
Lies, and more lies.
Three songs that lift you up.
For The Good Of Them, Imagine Me, We Fall Down.
Four songs you wished were your own.
I'll Always Love You (Whitney Houston), Natural Woman (Aretha), I'm Every Woman (Chaka Khan).
Five men you'd like to go out on a date with.
Nobody, because I get what I want.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to conduct this interview :)
