Paula Campbell is an upcoming artist who will soon take the world by storm when the debut album, "My Name Is Paula Campbell", gets released. I caught up with the R&B songstress to talk about her passion for music, album release dates, touring with Schaffer "Ne-Yo" Smith, and having Ciara as the video director of lead single - "Ain't Nobody Stupid". Enjoy reading and don't forget to post your thoughts :)
Hamada: - Have you always been passionate about music?
Paula: - I've always been passionate about music, and I cannot imagine my life without it.
Hamada: - When is the release date for your debut album," I am Paula Campbell"?
Paula: - I really don't like to talk about release dates because they are always subject to change until the date rolls around!! (lol)
Hamada: - Whom have you worked with on the project in terms of songwriters and producers? And who would love to collaborate with in the near future?
Paula: - I worked with Neyo, Carvin & Ivan (Of Karma), The Clutch, Yummy Bingham, Troy Oliver, Stargate, JB & Korron (The Movement), Warryn Campbell, Makeba Riddick, Krystal Oliver, Chuck Harmony, Shea Taylor, and Keri Hilson. I would love to work with Bryan Michael Cox.
Hamada: - What made you choose "Ain't Nobody Stupid" as the lead single?
Paula: - It was pretty much a group decision. We thought it was a great song to start with.
Hamada: - How was it like having multi-talented artist Ciara as your video director?
Paula: - It was amazing and truly a blessing!
Hamada: - Tell us about some of your favorite songs on the album, with a few liner notes about each one of them.
Paula: - "Won't Love You Back" is one of my favorites. "I'm the one who die for you, you go out and bleed for her" …. I was describing the streets. Carvin Haggins and I collaborated on it.
Hamada: - You've also toured with singer/songwriter Schaffer "Ne-Yo" Smith, how's he like in person? And will we see the two of you recording a duet soon?
Paula: - He is so talented and hard working. Collaborating with him was a blessing as well. He was really fun to work with.
Hamada: - Judging by some of your song titles, you've dealt with the subject of infidelity. How would you personally react if you learnt that your man is cheating on you? And what do you think of women who cheat on their men?
Paula: - Now!! If I learnt that my man was cheating on me I would leave. I've never been one to cheat so therefore I really don't think about it.
Hamada: - 2007 will see the launch of several R&B female artists, what's the one thing that sets you apart from the rest?
Paula: - I Am Paula Campbell.
Hamada: - Recently America has witnessed the invasion of British Soul artists such as Amy Winehouse and Joss Stone. Do you think they take away from their US counterparts? And would you work with British R&B producers?
Paula: - No I don't think they take away from the U.S counterparts. They're both talented artists. I feel there's enough space for everyone in the business. I also work with some producers named Stargate who are British as well.
Hamada: - What qualities do you look for in a man? And are you dating someone at the moment?
Paula: - I am single. What I look for in a man is honesty, intelligence, caring, and genuine. He has to give me the things I need from day to day, but those needs change from day to day!!
Hamada: - Would you rather date someone from inside or outside the music industry?
Paula: - I think it's hard for artist to date period!! (lol) Just with busy schedules and all.
Hamada: - Tell us something that most readers will be surprised to learn about you?
Paula: - In my mind, I'm constantly cursing like a sailor (lol)
Hamada: - Have you thought about visiting countries in the Middle East? If so, which one would be your first choice?
Paula: - I want to travel all over the world!!
Hamada: - What message would you like to give to your fans all over the world?
Paula: - Thanks to all who have supported me - past, present and future!!
