Entry: [MONICA MANIA INTERVIEW] TORI ALAMAZE Saturday, February 10, 2007

Sexy songstress Tori Alamaze is no stranger to the music business, as she was a backing vocalist to R&B/Hip Hop duo Outkast. Most of you know her as the original performer of "Don't Cha" and "Take Control", which were later given by producer Cee-Lo to The Pussycat Dolls and Amerie. Fresh with a new start, Ms. Alamaze is currently working on her 2nd album, planning to release a new mixtape this February, and the video for her new single "Freaky Boys" has already been shot. I've caught up with lovely singer to talk about the music industry, indie labels vs. major labels, working with Cee-Lo, and much more … Enjoy, and don't forget to post your thoughts :)

When did you start your musical career professionally?

I've always worked in entertainment as I began my career as a makeup artist, but I started taking the artist side seriously probably in 2000.

Your music is heavily influenced by girl group Vanity 6. Are you a big fan?

Lol! … What I love about the music I create is that it usually reminds someone of a group/artist they admire… So thank u for the comparison to Vanity6!

For those who came in late, "Don't Cha" by the Pussycat Dolls and "Take Control" by Amerie were both originally performed by Tori Alamaze. Is it true that most of the songs given by producer Cee-Lo to female artists are Tori Alamaze left-overs? And what do you think of Amerie's and Pussycat Dolls' versions?

I wouldn't say leftovers, however the songs are inauthentic copies of my style.

Will we see you working with Cee-Lo again?

When the time is convenient for the both of us, Sure!

Are you currently recording a new album? If so, when is it coming out?

I have a mixtape coming out soon. In February, I'll be having a mixtape release party in Atlanta, Ga.

Those who visit your MySpace profile can listen to your track "Freaky Boys". Tell us about that song? And how did it come about?

I was totally inspired by Klymaax. The song is fun, and I hope my fans receive it well.

Whom have you worked with in terms of producers/songwriters? And whom would you like to hook up with in the future?

Right now I'm working with producers signed with Purple Ribbon Records here in Atlanta.

What do you think of the new trend of underrated artists switching from major labels to independent labels?

Sometimes there may be a bit more "freedom" with indies. It's all individual though.

If you were given a choice to join any major label of your choice, which one would you choose?

Any label that believes in me & the music and gets me as a marketing product Im with it!

If you could do a duet with a living artist, whom would you choose?

Martin Luther.

What does Tori look for in a man?

I like nerds … really smart guys!

Even though I've been hearing your music for more than a year or so, I've seen your pictures for the first time on MySpace, and you're very beautiful, Mashallah. What's your secret?

Sleep!

Tell us a few things that most people will be surprised to learn about you? And do you have any secret talents?

Most people are usually shocked to hear that I'm really shy and I'm a great back-cracker!

Have you thought about visiting any Arabic country? If so, which country is on top of your list?

I'd love to come hang out with you in your country! Smile ( I'd love that too Big Smile )

Is there any message you'd like to give to your fans all over the world?

The support all over the world is amazing.  I must thank everyone for their support!  Keep supporting authentic music!

Let me tell you this! . . . Tori Alamaze is going to take the music world by storm in '07 and '08. She is an artist whose time has come! Mainstream music has had the life sucked out of it by industry executives who lack vision. The way has been paved for authentic and truly talented performers. Tori is Alamaze is all that and then some! Pretenders beware . . . a new force is on the horizon! My prediction: double platinum.
